Cornelis Springer
1817-1891
Cornelis Springer was born in Amsterdam 1817, he died in Hilversum 1891. Student at the Amsterdam Art School, pupil of G. ten Cate and K. Karsen. Cornelis Springer lived and worked in Amsterdam, Brussels and in Germany. He painted situations in towns and villages with ashtonishing sunlight effects. He obtained a gold medal for a church interior in 1847 and in 1865 he was honoured with the "Leopoldsorde" of Belgium. In 1878 Cornelis Springer was invited by the gouvernment to give his opinion about the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam that was to be constructed. Works by C. Springer in numerous museums in The Netherlands and abroad.
