Jan M. Ruijten

1813-1881

Jan Michiel Ruijten (also called Ruyters) was born on April 9th 1813 in Antwerp (Belgium) where he died on November 12th 1881. He was a pupil of Wijnand Jan Joseph Nuijten and Petrus van Regenmorter. He painted many works of his city Antwerp, marketscenes, streets, squares and canals. Ruijten also painted historical scenes, genre and interior works, landscapes and marines. He also worked as an engraver. His works are to be found in several Belgian museums.
