Johan B. Jongkind
1819-1891
Johan Bartold Jongkind, born in Lattrop (The Netherlands) June 3rd, 1819. He died on February 9th, 1891 near Grenoble. Student of the artschool in The Hague under Andreas Schelfhout. He also studied in Paris, instructions by L.G.E. Isabet and F.E. Picot. J.B. Jongkind lived and worked in The Netherlands, Switzerland and France. Impressionistic painter of landscapes, town- and harbourviews. Some favourite items were the towns of Delft, Dordrecht and Rotterdam. Jongkind is called the forerunner of the French impressionism. He had numerous exhibitions and his works are in museums all over the world. Literature: Publications in art magazines, weekly and monthly papers and magazines all over the world.
