Johannes H. Koekkoek
1778-1851
Johannes Hermanus Koekkoek, born in Veere (Zealand) August 17th, 1778. He died in Amsterdam January 9th, 1851. He was student in a wallpaperfactory in Middelburg and was selftaught.Painter of sea-, river- and beachviews. Caracteristic in his work are the delicate colours and beautifully finished figures. J.H. Koekkoek is the founder of the family of painters Koekkoek. When he lived in Middelburg he taught at the artschool, after 1826 he lived and worked in Amsterdam. J.H. Koekkoek had a profound theoretical knowledge of vessels. Exhibitions in Haarlem, Middelburg and The Hague. Works in possession of numerous Dutch museums.
