Kees Maks
1876-1967
Cornelis Johannes "Kees" Maks was born in Amsterdam, August 22nd, 1876, he died in Amsterdam October 28th, 1967. Student of the Amsterdam Art school, pupil of G.H. Breitner, he also studied at the Rome Art school. Kees Maks lived and worked in Amsterdam, Paris, Madrid and Rome. Painter of figures, animals, clowns, ballets, circus and town scapes. He won the Golden Queen Wilhelmina medal in 1928 and the golden medal on the World Fair in Paris 1937. Solo exhibitions in the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam and in the Frans Halsmuseum Haarlem. Works in possession of the Frans Hals Museum Haarlem, Rijkscollectie, Belastingmuseum Rotterdam and others.
