1812-1896

Oene Romkes de Jongh was born on April 6th, 1812 in Makkum (Holland), he died July 1st, 1896 in Amsterdam (Holland). He lived and worked in Amsterdam and the Amsterdam surroundings. Painter of mainly townviews like the city of Amsterdam and the harbours of the "Zuiderzee" (today IJsselmeer), like Volendam and Marken. His townviews in wintertime are wellknown. Also painter of landscapes, mostly with a farmhouse and a river of stream. O.R. de Jongh was inspirerd by Adrianus Eversen and Cornelis Springer, both very famous painters of townviews. Oene de Jongh had numerous exhibitions in Amsterdam and Groningen.
