Dutch Painters & Belgian Painters (223)
1787-1870
During his lifetime the winterscenes and summer landscapes of Andreas Schelfhout were much in demand. He was a very accurate painter with great technical refinement and with a sense for the anecdotical details. He could paint like no one else the dry freezing cold of a winterday and the sweet atmosphere of a long summerday. Sometimes P.G. van Os painted the cattle in his works. Andreas Schelfhout had many students, a.o. Charles Leickert, L.J. Kleyn, H.J. Weissenbruch and J.J. Jongkind. He had exhibitions in Haarlem, Amsterdam and The Hague. Works in possession of numerous museums in Holland and abroad.
