Petrus van Schendel
1806-1870
Petrus van Schendel was born April 21st, 1806 in Terheyden near Breda (Holland), he died in Brussels (Belgium) December 28th, 1870. Pupil of the Artschool in Antwerp. Perus van Schendel lived and worked in Amsterdam, Rotterdam and The Hague. He settled permanently in Brussels in 1845. He was a painter of biblical performances, portraits, genre pieces and especially "candle light" scenes. He also made some etchings. From 1834 on he was a member of the Royal Academy and of Arti Sacrum in Rotterdam. Petrus van Schendel received a gold medal at an exhibition in Brussels in 1845 for his "Market in the Moonlight". Exhibitions in Amsterdam, the Hague and Antwerp. His works are owned by the Rijksmuseum, Rijksprentenkabinet and Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, Rijksmuseum Groningen, Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen Rotterdam a.o.
